The generation and management of solid waste and in particular of the hazardous waste represents a serious environmental problem, hence the existence of an ever stricter European waste policy. Generally, these residues come from many different industries and have a really varied composition. The hierarchy established in the management of the waste contains like the last stage, the removing of these wastes in controlled landfills or in security deposits, by forcing the Law 10/98 of waste, to perform pretreatment before discharge, in order to reduce the hazardous characteristics of the waste.

In order to reduce the mobility and the toxicity of the contaminants present in the residues, the stabilization / and solidification processes are used, which consist of the use of binders and additives in order to obtain a solid final product that can be reused or whose disposal in a landfill does not pose a problem for human health or the environment.
